"Why didn't you wait for me, my sweet?"

I fell for her all over again.

One evening in the black of midnight, after seeing her in such pain, I crawled into her bed and held her close as she thought of me .

As I did, she felt me near.

I know this, for then she whispered sweet nothings into my phantom ear.

I thought, after that, I could go.

Cross over to another land, for what business did I have after I knew she was safe?

But it wasn't enough.

I need to feel the beat of her heart against my ghostly skin.

I need to feel her heat, for mine is gone.

I need to hear her words, words she wrote as she thought of me, that no one else will ever see.

Words on paper show, what needed to be told.

'She left me in a fit, pills were her escape, filled with bitterness and hate. But as she died, she forgave me with her eyes. In her life, she was a light. Brighter to none but me, she changed me permanently. With her words, her friendship and her love. She left me a ghost, who stays forever by my side. Whispering, with her haunting voice,

"I shall love you forever, I will never leave your side as long as my soul is alive." '

Elphaba wasn't one to believe in souls.

And certainly not in yours.

But she believes in mine, and will to the day she dies.

For on that day,

We will be together again and our fairy tale will never end.
